Actor Lee Min Ho Becomes The Most Followed Korean Celebrity On China’s Weibo

Hallyu star Lee Min Ho has surpassed singer Psy for the most followed Korean celebrity on China’s social networking site, Weibo

On November 10, Lee Min Ho revealed to have 24,607,772  followers on his Weibo account.

Right behind him is “Gangnam Style” singer Psy with around 24,440,000 followers. Psy had originally been at the number 1 spot for this list since last year, but ever since Lee Min Ho’s popularity began to grow in China, Psy has not been able to keep his number 1 ranking.

At number 3 on the list was singer and actor Jang Keun Suk followed by actor Lee Jun Ki and Super Junior member Choi Siwon.

Lee Min Ho’s popularity in China can be seen by the rapid growth of followers on his Weibo. He first hit 1 million followers last November and just 3 months later, he hit over 2 million followers.

Most recently, they released news of his new movie, “Gangnam 1970” and received over 40,000 replies on this news.

Weibo is considered one of the top social networking platforms in China and many celebrities popularity status can be measured by how many followers they have on this platform.

Many local Chinese media have stated that Lee Min Ho’s having this much popularity on Weibo is very rare for a foreign celebrity.

On the other hand, Lee Min Ho’s role in the movie, “Gangnam 1970” will release next January.

Lee Min Ho has acted in various dramas and movies ranging in many different genres. He is most popular and known for his roles in “Boys Over Flowers”, “City Hunter” and “The Heirs.”

His movie, “Gangnam 1970” will be his first lead role for a movie.

He has also won the Most Popular Korean TV Artist award at the 2014 ‘Singapore Entertainment Awards’.
